Cal Patch: Mending = Love (August 17th)

$95.00

MENDING = LOVE WORKSHOP
SATURDAY AFTERNOON, AUGUST 17th
2-5PM

Mending is an essential part of maintaining your handmade or Slow-Fashion wardrobe (or even your store-bought clothes!). Patching and darning are your key techniques. Cal was a clothing designer for Urban Outfitters and Free People before creating her own label, Hodge Podge. She teaches sewing and patternmaking throughout New York City. We are so excited that she will host a workshop teaching us mending.

Cal will teach 2 different ways to patch a hole in woven garments: Overlay and Reverse Applique, various stitches that work for each method and when to use them. We will mend a hole in a knitted garment with traditional darning. Whether you try to do it invisibly or artfully, you’ll extend the life of your favorite woolies by knowing how to darn them. Traditional darning works well for smaller holes or areas that are worn thin. You might have so much fun, you’ll actually be happy to see a new hole in your most-loved and worn garments! No prerequisite skills.

Basic supples will be provided, but please bring:

- 2 items (woven or T-shirt) with holes to be patched, or a piece of fabric to become a “mending sampler”
- A sock, sweater or other knit item with a small (not bigger than about 1″ across) hole to be darned (can be hand or machine knit)
- If you have a small amount of complimenting yarn (probably between fingering and worsted) and some special fabric to be used for patching , can be matching or contrast, or choose from what we offer.

Big Kids 10 and up welcome!
Workshop limited to 8 participants.
