BEFRIEND YOUR SEWING MACHINE WORKSHOP
SATURDAY MORNING, AUGUST 17th

Do you have a sewing machine in your closet, but have never used it? Or you want to sew, but the last time you stitched anything up was in Home Ec class in 8th grade? If you are looking for a low-commitment class to get acquainted with your machine (or reacquainted with the art of sewing), this is the one for you! In this 3-hour session, you will learn how to thread your machine and wind a bobbin, sew a simple seam, and hem edges. You will make either a pillowcase, tote bag, or drawstring pouch. From this start you’ll have a foundation for moving on to all kinds of sewing projects, and your machine may just become your very BEST friend! Cal was a clothing designer for Urban Outfitters and Free People before creating her own label, Hodge Podge. She teaches sewing and patternmaking throughout the US and we are so lucky to have her join us for the day at Sullivan Public!

NOTE: Cal is not a repair person. Please be sure your machine is in working order; if in doubt, have it serviced. Bring the machine’s manual (most can be downloaded if the original isn’t available).

Basic supplies will be provided.

Please bring:
– sewing machine
– 1/2 yard or more fabric: any basic woven, printed or solid cottons, denim, twill, etc. (Optional: 1 yard ribbon for handles or drawstring, or trims for decoration)
– all-purpose thread to match, or choose from our limited selection
